What is there not to love about The Uncharted series? It features shooting, platforming, action, adventure and one of the best story arcs of any game.
Nathan Drake, Sully, Elena, Chloe and the rest of the cast are characters that you actually grow to care about and want to see succeed. Naughty Dog is one of the best developers out there when it comes to storytelling and in this list, you will notice that is a common theme.
Counting the game for the PlayStation Vita, Golden Abyss and also the Chloe and Nadine spin-off, The Lost Legacy.
There have been six games in the Uncharted series and I can hand on heart say that I have loved every single game.
No spoilers here, but the way that Naughty Dog wrapped up Nathan Drake’s story in Uncharted 4 is one of the best endings to a video game series I have come across in a very long time.
If you want more games that offers a great story and a real adventure filled with action, you are going to love the games just down below.
The Last of Us
The Last Of Us is also brought to us from the good folks at Naughty Dog. Set in a pretty messed up future where mankind has fallen victim to this horrible infection that causes people to go crazy and eventually mutate into some plant/human hybrid.
You play as Joel as you make your way across the country with Ellie who is supposedly the key to finding a cure as she is immune to the disease. Joel takes the job as a favor to his friend, but he soon becomes very attached to Ellie…… and so do you!
From a gameplay point of view, The Last of Us is very solid. You are better off trying to find your way around the infected than taking them head on.
While the gameplay is fun, it is the story (much like in Uncharted) that is the really amazing aspect of The Last of Us. Playing as Joel, you really do start to care about Ellie and it gets to the point that you would do anything to keep her safe.
Let me tell you, no spoilers here, but if you have played the game you know what I am talking about. I would have done the exact same thing that Joel did at the end of the game! The definitive version on the PS4 is the best way to play this game, but you can pick up the PS3 version for next to nothing.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn is one of my favorite games of this console generation and one thing that makes it one of the best games on this list and it’s also a PlayStation exclusive. Horizon Zero Dawn is the kind of game that I really do not want to spoil for you guys.
You play as Aloy, a young woman from a primitive tribe that has a high tech focus device that gives her an edge over enemies and her surroundings. Aloy is such an awesome character and she voice acted perfectly.
The whole story of Horizon Zero Dawn is one that is very intriguing and it has some huge and I mean huge twists that will blow your mind.
Gameplay wise, Horizon Zero Dawn is a huge open world with all kinds of locations.
Forests, mountains, snow, deserts and so on. There are a lot of different robot animals and enemies for you to kill and crafting your ammo is a huge part of the game as well. You can play the game any way you want, but I would advise getting as leveled up as possible before you try the harder parts of the game.
Do not worry though as this is not a grind as hunting in Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the most fun things about the game. Without a doubt, this is one of the best games on the PlayStation 4.
Batman: Arkham Knight
Words cannot say how much I love the Arkham series of video games. If I am honest I would say that Arkham City is my favorite, but that is mainly to do with the story. Arkham Knight from a gameplay point of view offers everything that Arkham City offers and then some more. Batman still has a ton of different gadgets at his disposal and the interesting thing about Batman Arkham Knight is that you can play as any kind of Batman you want.
I like to play with my fists and mainly use the epic combo system to take enemies down. Other players might like to make more use of his gadgets.
Then, of course, there is the Batmobile. While I prefer gliding around Gotham City. Being able to get behind the wheel of the Batmobile which is more like a tank than a car is so much fun. Batman Arkham Knight is the end of the Arkham trilogy and I think that it went out in a very high note.
The story is not quite as good as Arkham City, but to be fair that may just be my personal preference. As well as picking up Batman Arkham Knight, do yourself a favor and buy the Batman Return To Arkham which features the first two Arkham games as well.
Rise of the Tomb Raider
You cannot have an Uncharted list and not have a Lara Croft adventure on it! After all, in the early days of the Uncharted series, the comparisons to Tomb Raider were unavoidable and until the Tomb Raider franchise was rebooted for the second time.
Many people felt that Uncharted was the game that Tomb Raider should have been. While I think the first Tomb Raider game (well first of this second reboot) is great. I do think that its sequel is superior in almost every way. To start with this is a gorgeous game and the PS4 version actually comes with all the additional content.
The story is great and the voice acting is very well done. This Lara Croft is far more real than she has ever been before and let me tell you she goes through hell in this game. What I think makes Rise of the Tomb Raider a better game is that there is far more content.
There are more actual tombs to look for treasure in this time and it also feels like there is way more side content to mess around with as well. Of all the games on this list, I would probably say that Rise of the Tomb Raider is the most like Uncharted.
I am sure that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is great too, but I have not played through that just yet.
Assassin’s Creed
Assassin’s Creed started as a franchise that everyone loved and then it kind of hit a snag where you could tell that Ubisoft’s decision to have the game become an annual franchise was really hurting the series.
To be fair there are more good Assassin’s Creed games than there are bad, but there are a few that I feel deserve special attention if you are looking for a game that gives you a similar kind of Uncharted feeling.
Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag is my favorite in the series. Playing as a pirate is really cool and I think the game is very well made. Assassin’s Creed III is a game that I feel is criminally underrated set during the American Revolution I know that it may be a little rough around the edges by today’s standard, but it is still a fun game.
Last year’s Assassin’s Creed Origins is a fantastic game and one that has a bit of Uncharted and Horizon Zero Dawn about it. If you want a more open world kind of experience that is the Assassin’s Creed (or you can get the new Odyssey) that you want to play.
Watch Dogs 2
Let me tell you a story about Watch Dogs! I pre-ordered the PS4 Watch Dogs 1 bundle, but as the game was delayed my (whose name I will not mention) game store canceled my whole pre-order! Anyway, the first Watch Dogs was average at best, but it had some great ideas. I think that these ideas were fully realized in Watch Dogs 2.
Watch Dogs 2 is worthy of being on this list as it is a huge world for you to explore and there is just so much for you to do.
I also think that Watch Dogs 2 is a gorgeous game and one that does not get the credit it deserves for how good it looks.
Hacking the grid and messing with the city and the other people in the city is a lot of fun. While Watch Dogs 2 is a lot of fun to screw around with and just cause mayhem in the city like you do in a Grand Theft Auto game.
I was very surprised at how good the story was and I did actually end up finishing it. So if an open world game with a well written and engaging story is what you are after, Watch Dogs 2 is well worth playing.
Quantum Break
Here we have an Xbox One exclusive, Quantum Break. This is a really fun game and a game that I have a feeling the folks at Microsoft thought was going to be a much bigger deal than it was. It is like you are playing in an interactive movie and as a matter of fact, the game actually splices in live action cutscenes with the action.
It is a matter of taste if you like these things, but I think they are pretty neat and they do help move the story along very well. The story is no adventure based like Uncharted, it is a sci-fi story, but it is well written and the voice acting is directed very well.
The gameplay of Quantum Break is not trying to reinvent the wheel and I am ok with that. The story sees you developing superpowers that let you travel through and control time. You want to use these powers for good, but your dear old buddy wants to master the powers to use for his own gain.
It is a very well made game and one that can cost as little as five bucks so I do think it is worth playing through if you have an Xbox One.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Here is a game that caused really polarizing opinions when it was first released, but I did have a lot of fun with it. I know the sci-fi and RPG style of the game makes it seem like an odd choice to be in this article. However, thanks to its very low price and also the fact that this is a very well made and fun game.
I think that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a game that has a lot to offer.
Well, I say that it has a lot to offer, but one of the complaints of this game is the short length compared to the past games.
I do not have a problem with this as sometimes it is nice to be able to beat a game in a few sittings. One of the best things about this game for me is all the different weapons and abilities that you have at your disposal.
As there is so much choice you have a game that allows you to tackle it the way you want and I think that is pretty cool.
I know that this is not a game for everyone, but if you can find it for a low price, please check it out. Especially if you like your games to be really story driven like the Uncharted series is.
God of War
Sony has been kicking so much butt with their exclusives this console generation and in all honesty, God of War may be my absolute favorite.
I am a huge fan of the series and at first, I was a little unsure of the older Kratos and the Norse setting. Well, I was dumb for doubting it as God of War is an absolute masterpiece of a video game.
The world is the perfect size for you to explore, plus there are other realms that you can explore. The combat is the best the series has ever had and at first, I was unsure how I would like not having the Blades of Chaos as the main weapon. However, by the end of the game, the Leviathan Axe was my main weapon and I would only use the Blades of Chaos when absolutely necessary.
What I think makes this one of the best games on this list is the story. Now yes I know that comparing a game about a cool adventurer and a game about a Greek god sounds odd. Where I am drawing the comparison is with how well they are written and how great a job the voice actors do. You really do care about Kratos and his son Atreus.
I do not think any other God of War game has made Kratos as a relatable character as this one. If you have a PlayStation 4 this has to be in your collection. While it is great if you have played the previous games in the series.
Sony has done a very good job making sure that new players to the series are not completely left in the dark.
Infamous: Second Son
Infamous: Second Son was actually one of the first big exclusives for the PlayStation 4. The game has a new protagonist, Delsin Rowe and I think he is actually a really cool character. The world is pretty big and I love the way that you can make use of Delsin’s abilities to traverse the city.
He feels far more athletic than Cole did in the previous Infamous games. You really do not need to have played any of the other Infamous games to get anything out of this one. As a matter of fact, I think those first two games are quite hard to back to once you have played this one.
While the story in Infamous Second son is a lot of fun. For me what really makes this game is the way that you have so much control over Delsin.
I liked to play him as a good guy and I would help people as much as I could and not trash the city. You can go the opposite way of this and put a beating on who you want and use your powers just for fun! I really do feel that Infamous: Second Son is one of the most underrated of all the PlayStation 4 exclusives and it should be in every PS4 collection.
So there are my picks for some awesome games like Uncharted. I want to pick one game for you that I feel is the best, but that is impossible for me to do!
This is one of the hardest lists I have done as there are so many games on it that I feel are essential for any gamers collection.
Let me say that if you love the Uncharted series then the games you simply must play from today’s list are, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Infamous: Second Son and Batman Arkham Knight.
Yes, I know that is half the list! However, I really do believe that if you like Uncharted, you are really going to appreciate all of those games.
