With Call of Duty Black Ops IIII just released there is shooter mania all over the world right now. I am a huge Call of Duty fan and have been since I played Call of Duty on the PS2. Call of Duty Black Ops IIII and to be honest WWII before it are two fantastic games.

There have been only a couple of COD games that have disappointed me over the years so despite people complaining we get a Call of Duty game each year. They are always incredibly well made.

If you can break yourself away from Call of Duty Black Ops IIII, you may be interested to check out my list of games like Call of Duty.

If you have a lot of fun with the COD series then I am sure you are going to really enjoy the games I have for you down below.

Counter Strike GO

I am not the biggest pro gaming (or if you prefer E Sports) fan in the world, but I remember how crazy people went over Counter Strike GO.

So much so that it was a game that I really wanted to get into. Well, I played it (the PS3 version at the time) and I had a lot of fun with it.

Counter Strike Go is all about working as a team. It is certainly a game that is better when you play with folks you know. Also if you are new to the game I highly recommend that you try and play with someone who can teach you the ropes.

Over the last decade or so they have done a fantastic job of adding a ton of new content to the game. New game modes, maps, characters and so on. It is one of the best supported shooters that I have ever had the pleasure to play.

Counter Strike GO is still a huge game to this day and if you can get past the learning curve and find some friendly people to play with, you will have a really good time with it.

Insurgency

I will admit that when I first heard about and saw previews for Insurgency that I thought it looked like a cheap and lame, Call of Duty rip off.

Wow was I wrong! I think that this is a game that has to be on this list. Insurgency is all about multiplayer action.

They have a nice selection of maps here and you will be trying to take the point, protect something, destroy something and of course take down as many people as you can. There is always some kind of action happening in Insurgency!

What I think really clicks with me and other fans of Call of Duty who have jumped to Insurgency is that the maps are quite close quarters so firefights are super intense.

The maps are perfectly designed and you may die a lot in each match, but you will also have a pretty high kill count yourself.

Working as a squad is the best way to go, but I have also had a lot of fun playing Insurgency by myself with a bunch of random players as well.

Squad

Here we have Squad. Squad is one of those games that I had never actually heard of until a buddy (a fellow COD fan) told me I needed to check it out.

Squad is exactly what the name sounds like. It is a multiplayer game that has a very heavy emphasis on playing as a squad. They have gone for a very realistic approach to combat and this can take a little while to get used to.

But on the flip side of this, when things start to click and you figure out how you can best work as part of a team. You will be having a great time and just like the A-Team, you will love it when a plan comes together.

As well as having a heavy emphasis on working as a team, Squad also is very tactical. So this is a game where you will want to try and communicate with your squad as much as possible so that each person knows what they are doing.

The maps are much larger than you would think, but there are some pretty cool vehicles that you can make use of which I have found come in real handy to get to a buddy who needs help or even to get your butt out of trouble when bullets are flying all over.

I would say that Squad does have a bit of a learning curve, but I highly recommend that you stick with it and you will find it to be a very rewarding game.

Modern Combat 5 (Android IOS)

How good could a first person shooter on a phone be? Well, I had heard of the Modern Combat series before, but it was not until this game here, Modern Combat 5 that I had a phone which would actually play it. Wow, I cannot get over how good this game looks.

When it is in motion it looks just like a console game and I have to say that this is as close to Call of Duty on a mobile that you really can get, well until Activision stop messing around and give us a real COD game for mobile devices.

Modern Combat 5 features very smooth controls. I do feel that they take a little while to get used to, but once you do you will be very happy with how the game handles. There are plenty of game modes, maps, and guns for you to play with. Best of all Modern Combat 5 is free! There is no excuse whatsoever to check this game out.

It does have some annoying ads, but you can easily tolerate those when you know the game is free!

Titanfall 2

In a just world, Titanfall 2 would have sold millions and millions of copies and be herald as one of the best first person shooters of its generation.

I was not a huge fan of the first Titanfall game, but they knocked it out of the park with Titanfall 2. This is one of the best games on this list and I would compare it with the more futuristic COD games like Advanced Warfare, Black Ops III and Infinite Warfare.
Titanfall 2 is the complete package. Before I even get to the multiplayer.

I have to talk about the truly fantastic single player campaign. This is a roller coaster ride from begging to end and you truly care about what happens.

The multiplayer is just a blast. You run around the map in a really cool way as the characters in Titanfall 2 are very athletic.

However, there is a countdown meter and when it gets all the way down your titan comes out to play and then the poop really does hit the fan! I really cannot recommend Titanfall 2 highly enough and you can pick this up very cheaply these days.

Black Squad

What caught my eye about Black Squad was the way that the developer went above and beyond to stress that this is not a pay to win game.

That right there caught my interest. Black Squad is a realistic military shooter. It offers balls to the wall action and no matter what mode you decide to play, you are going to be having a fun and intense gaming experience.

This is actually a very popular game and you will have no trouble finding folks to play it with, oh and by the way it is free!

However, while this is free as I said this is no pay to win game so the better you get at the game, the more rewarded you will be.

I really like when a game rewards skill rather than those who have the deepest pockets. If you love Call of Duty and want a game that is going to really let you feel like a badass but at the same time also rewards you for doing so. You need to give Black Squad a try as it really is quite excellent.

Killing Floor 2

You may be wondering why I have the blood splatterfest that is Killing Floor 2 and it had to be on this list. Well, there is one mode in Call of Duty that is super popular and that is Zombies mode. Zombies are cool and even cooler is being able to kill about a million of them. Well, that is exactly what Killing Floor 2 is offering.

You and a group of other players will need to team up to put these freaks in their place. If you love your games to be ultra over the top and violent, you are going to love Killing Floor 2.

I actually play this on the PlayStation 4 and even when I go a few months without firing it up I always find a game next time I am on. The weapons are cool, blood splatters everywhere and they are always adding new and fresh content which is what personally keeps me coming back for more.

If Zombies is the main thing that you love in Call of Duty, Killing Floor 2 is a game you have to give a try.

Warface

With a development pedigree like Crysis and Far Cry, Warface is Warface. An MMO shooter that has built quite the following over the last few years.

While I have said that this is a game like COD and with its military approach to the first person shooter genre it certainly is. I think that as this is a multiplayer game that is also story driven, it does have some things in common with games Titanfall.

One of the most impressive aspects for me about Warface is the way that there are a ton of maps. I think at last count there were over 50 maps.

This keeps you on your toes and it stops you from ever getting truly comfortable as you never know what map you are going to be on.

There are only a handful of classes, but each class does give you different options so you can tweak it to just the way you want. I actually really like this as it keeps things more simple.

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3

I have to tell you that I really did not get into the first two Sniper Ghost Warrior games, but when Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 was first released a buddy gifted it to me and I had a lot of fun with it.

I would say that Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 is a bit more of a thinking man’s shooter. You can try and run and gun if you want, but that will only get you so far. This is a game that makes you think before you act and that is something which at first I did not really like, but once I got into it, I loved it when I would catch a dude in my sights and just pop him off.

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 has a somewhat open world feel to it and with a lot of side missions that you can tackle there is a lot for you to sink your teeth in here.

I know that many reviews have not been kind to Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, however, if you can find it cheap I suggest you give it a try as there is a lot of fun to be had here.

Overwatch

Ok, so full disclosure here, Overwatch is one of my all time favorite games. I have put so much time into Overwatch that it would probably embarrass me to tell you how much. Overwatch is one of the greatest shooters ever made. It is a shooter that anyone in the world no matter their skill level can pick up and learn the basics of.

What makes Overwatch one of the best games like Call of Duty though is the way that it is a hero based shooter. With a ton of different characters to pick from. No matter what kind of gamer you are, you will find a few characters that fit you perfectly.

For me personally, I am a D.Va. Sombra and Orisa kind of man. Overwatch has captured the flag, Team Deathmatch, and other awesome game modes as well.

Blizzard is great at putting on different events during the year so there is always something new and exciting to look forward to. I can play three games of Overwatch in a row and lose everyone and still have a fantastic time.

Overwatch really is a game that I feel anyone can have fun with even if the only other first person shooter they have played is Call of Duty.

Rainbow Six Siege

Rainbow Six Siege is very interesting in that I feel it is the middle ground between Call of Duty and Overwatch. Like Overwatch, you have a selection of different characters to pick from. Each one with their own strengths, weaknesses, and abilities.

However, Rainbow Six Siege has a far more realistic take on its first person shooter action. Which I feel if great if you have never been able to get on board with Overwatch’s cartoony take on the first person shooter genre.

Rainbow Six Siege is a great game to play if you play online with your buddies and you like to communicate with each other to play your attack or plan how you are going to defend. There is a lot of strategy in Rainbow Six Siege and I feel that is why it has become so popular with fans of Call of Duty who love to take it more seriously.

I have had fun when I have played this game, but I must admit it is the kind of game that is better when you are playing with people you know.

Battlefield

Last on my list is Battlefield! Battlefield is the biggest competitor that Call of Duty has and as I write this Battlefield V is still a little ways away.

Battlefield 1 and the other games in the series have always provided a great time for me. Battlefield is seen as more of a thinking man’s first person shooter. I am not sure I would completely agree with that as I feel that they both offer a very similar kind of experience.

However, I will say that just because you like one does not mean you cannot like the other.
Just like in Call of Duty, no matter what Battlefield game you get. You know that you are getting a ton of content.

There is always a very well made campaign that is like you are playing a role in a Hollywood movie and then there are a ton of different multiplayer modes. I really like how Battlefield is more class based and how each person on your squad needs to make the most of the class they have suggested to make sure you have the best chance of winning.

I hope that you have found some good games on this list. I want to take a moment to pick some of my personal favorites.

Number one has to be Overwatch. This is a first-person shooter that I feel has something for everyone and it is a game I really cannot recommend highly enough.

The next game is Titanfall 2. What is there not to love about Titanfall 2? It has an excellent single-player campaign, a very awesome multiplayer and it lets you take control of giant mechs! The last game I am going to personally suggest is Battlefield.

You may want to hold off for Battlefield V, but I still think there is a lot of legs left in Battlefield 1.
