No matter what console or PC you have you can play Warframe. It is even on Nintendo Switch now and Warframe is a game that I had a lot of fun with.
This is a free to play third person shooter and I know when you hear the term “free to play” you may roll your eyes and think that it is a game you will have to drop a load of money into in order to get the best out of.
Well, that is not really the case with Warframe. I have played quite a bit of it with my brother in law on the Xbox One and we have had a blast.
Plus best of all we have not spent a single penny! Today I want to share with you some great games like Warframe. I think if you have had fun with Warframe, you will have a lot of fun with these.
Destiny
I am putting Destiny 1 and 2 together here. Full disclosure, I have played way more Destiny 1 than I have Destiny 2.
However, I do know that Destiny 2 got a huge new update and that it was available for free on PlayStation Plus last month. Anyway, I feel that Destiny has a very similar kind of style to Warframe. It is more of a first person shooter, but you can be in 3rd person when you are making your way to get new gear and so on. The first Destiny is truly fantastic.
There is just so much to do here, you can play the game any way you like and let me tell you, you never forget your first raid!
One thing I will say about Destiny is that this is a game much like Warframe where it is better played with other people. Not just other people, but people you actually know. You will have a much easier time getting through the game, but more importantly than that. You will also have a lot of fun.
Destiny is a game where you and your buddy will end up wanting to do just one more mission time and time again. The first Destiny game can be picked you for next to nothing these days and the original version of Destiny 2 is pretty cheap too.
Borderlands 2
If you love balls to the wall action then you will have a great time with Borderlands 2. The reason that I wanted this on my list is that like Warframe, Borderlands 2 is much better when played with other people.
It is a co-op shooter where the idea of the game is that you shoot and you loot in a massive open world. The story of Borderlands 2 and the main villain, Handsome Jack are both awesome and you will be laughing a lot as you play this game.
A huge part of the fun with Borderlands 2 is that there are not just different classes for you to play with. But an insane amount of weapons for you as well.
It can sometimes be a little overwhelming, but the game is so much fun to play. I would be willing to try any gun out. I spent most of my time with Borderlands 2 on the Xbox 360. However, there is a better and updated version for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC as part of the Borderlands: Handsome Collection.
I think this is the way that you want to experience Borderlands 2 these days.
Path of Exile
I have a buddy who is obsessed with Path of Exile! Path of Exile is an action-packed MMO RPG style game that is all about getting as much loot as you can.
It is a very story driven MMO and it is always undergoing some kind of update. While the more medieval and fantasy setting may make Path of Exile a rather odd game to be on a list of Warframe alternatives.
I do personally feel that the way you create a character, have to get loot, upgrade your character and play with others make it a game similar to Warframe.
I have not put as much time into Path of Exile as I would like, but I do know that it is one of those games that many people get addicted to.
If you love the fantasy setting and want a deep story with your game, Path of Exile is well worth giving a try especially as it is free to play and you can get a real feel for the game without spending any money.
Mass Effect 3
Let’s not talk about the Mass Effect game that followed Mass Effect 3. If you ask me, Mass Effect 3 is a near perfect trilogy of video games.
This is a sci-fi RPG and it is one that is going to get its hooks in you so deep that you will never stop until you get to the end of Commander Shepard’s story.
I played all of the games in the Mass Effect series and while if I am being 100 percent honesty I think I would say part 2 is my favorite (maybe a bit of nostalgia goggles there though?) I will say that this third game in the series is the most action-packed. Plus as this is on the Wii U (yes the freaking Wii U) Mass Effect 3 is probably the most easily available of all the games.
If you like open world RPGs with well written characters and also a protagonist that you have a lot of say in how they act. You are going to have a great time with Mass Effect 3.
In a day and age where we get some kind of HD or definitive edition of a game. I really would love to see a Mass Effect collection compiling the first three games released for the Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4.
This is a series that is well worth a play through from begging to end. However, if you are new to the series and want to check it out, Mass Effect 3 is where to go.
SMITE
I had heard of SMITE years before I actually played it and in all honesty, had Xbox’s Games with Gold service not gave me access to some of the extra content I do not think I would have. SMITE is a very interesting action-packed MMO.
It is like Warframe in that you have plenty of classes to choose from and a ton of choice at your fingertips when it comes to making your character unique.
Unlike Warframe, SMITE does have a fantasy setting so I could see this being something that makes or breaks the game. It is worth noting that this is free to play and the characters (or gods as the game calls them) can be earned during gameplay.
The main thing that caught my attention in SMITE was when they added Bob Ross into the game! That is insane and awesome all rolled into one. Not only is SMITE a worthy game of being on this list.
I actually think that SMITE is a very good game for a person new to MMO style games to try out as you can dip your toes in by yourself and then start to branch out and talk to other players if you want. As it is free, it is well worth giving a chance I am sure you will have a
Diablo 3
I had long heard of the Diablo series, but at the time Diablo 2 was all the rage I did not have a gaming PC. Luckily Diablo 3 is available on pretty much anything that is capable of playing a video game so everyone can enjoy it.
For me personally, I put a lot of time into the PlayStation 4 version of the game and I had a great time doing so. Diablo 3 is an action packed dungeon crawler game.
It plays like the old Baulders Gate series or if you want a bit of a more out there reference, it actually reminds me a little of the X-Men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance games.
The class system in Diablo 3 is awesome and I think that is because of how cool the character designs are.
I actually restarted my game a few times until I found the right class for me (it was Barbarian by the way) but I had a lot of fun learning the basics of the game.
Speaking of learning the game, I feel that Diablo 3 is one of the easiest games to pick up and play on this list. There is a ton of depth to the game, but I do feel that it eases you in and lets you learn the mechanics of the game very well.
Vanquish
Here is a game that does not just have a similar kind of look that Warframe has. But this is a game that I feel everyone needs to go and play! Vanquish was put out by the folks at Platinum Games and I am a huge fan of their work such as Bayonetta, Transformers Devastation and Neir Automata.
Vanquish here is one of their early titles and it is a true hidden gem. It was actually put out by Sega and it is a crime that more people do not know about Vanquish.
Vanquish is a 3rd person action game. Some people will say that it is a 3rd person shooter, but I think that is doing it a huge disservice. Yes the majority of the game is a shooter, but it has beat em up elements, big boss battles a cool sci-fi story and a real twitchy and fast paced style of gameplay.
Vanquish is one of those games that is just fun from begging to the very end. It is not the longest game in the world so it is perfect if you are looking for a game that is a lot of fun to play, but you can get through it in a few hours or so. It is actually backwards compatible on Xbox One right now, but no matter what you play this on, Vanquish is a game that is a guaranteed great time.
Anthem
Hmm, a bit of a cheat having Anthem on here as it is not released yet. However, Anthem is a game that has many people excited. So if you are looking for games similar to Warframe I do feel that Anthem is a game that has to be on your watch list. Anthem is coming to us from the folks at BioWare (who made the fantastic Mass Effect) and is being put out by EA. There are many parallels and comparisons with games like Mass Effect, Destiny and Halo and it is easy to see why.
The gameplay demo that has been shown the last few months make Anthem look very exciting. Online is going to be a huge part of Anthem and it is certainly a game that I have a lot of interest in.
While I clearly cannot say too much about Anthem as I have not played it. It is a game that is on my radar for early next year when it is released
Strike Suit Zero
Part mech and part spaceship, you are the last defense Earth has! To be truthful for you I was not expecting a whole lot from Strike Suit Zero, but I do feel that this is one very fun and immersive game.
This is a space combat game and the cosmos and all the carnage taking place in it has never looked better. I really do like the art style they went for.
It feels like something that is out of an anime, but at the same time, I think that it has a little bit of Michael Bay’s Transformers about it too.
You have different kinds of crafts that you can pick from and then there are a ton of different weapons that you can play around with.
One of the things that took me by surprise was that you need to use a lot more strategy than you would think in this game. Do not get me wrong there is a ton of action, but it is more tactical than many people realize.
With branching paths and lots of stuff to see and do. Strike Suit Zero is well worth a play through, especially if you love games that let you do some major damage with a badass mech.
Spacelords
Hmm, this is a very interesting game to talk about. Originally, Spacelords was called Raiders of the Broken Planet. It had a very weird release where they wanted people to buy chunks of the campaign at a time (which was very cheap by the way) but it never quite worked out that way.
Well, they have released it as a free to play game and rebranded it Spacelords. They hope that this is going to see the player base increase which I actually think it will.
I love the concept of Spacelords.
It is a 4 v 1 style game where the player who plays on their own is actually the antagonist which I think is really cool. You can play both sides of an epic war and there is a lot of weapons which can be customized for you to play around with.
I have to say that Spacelords is a game that is really interesting to me and it is one that I plan on putting some serious time into when I have the free time.
I think this could be a sleeper hit so be sure to give it a try, especially as it is free on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
Dishonored (Wild Card)
Last, but by no means least is a series that I adore, Dishonored. Now, this is a very strange one to put on here as there really is not much that links the Dishonored series to Warframe, but if you like the kind of action-packed gameplay that Warframe offers, you will really love the Dishonored series. So far there are three games in the series.
Dishonored 1, 2 and then Death of the Outsider. The first two games are truly incredible pieces of work. You play as Corvo in the first game and him or his daughter in the second.
At first glance, you may think that Dishonored is just a standard first person shooter. Well, it’s far more than that.
It is a first person story driven action game and it does it better than most. As well as guns and blades, you have special abilities that you can use. Ranging from teleporting around to controlling rats!
The levels are pretty big and it is up to you how you complete your objectives. For me, Dishonored 2 is the best in the series, but I would actually advise that you play them all as they are all great. The story is so strong that I could see this being turned into a movie one day.
So that is it for my list of games like Warframe. If I had to pick just one game for you guys who like Warframe to go and play I think it would be a tie between Destiny and Vanquish. While neither is 100 percent like Warframe I do feel they have enough of what you like about Warframe to make you have a really good time. On a personal note, I really cannot oversell the Dishonored series enough and feel that you really need to give that a chance.
