The Binding of Isaac is a game that I absolutely adore! I loved Indie Game The Movie and from that, I discovered Edmund McMillen.

It was impossible to not want the guy to succeed and it made me take a real interest in his work.

The Binding of Isaac is one messed up game, but there is just something kind of charming about the art style that makes you saw awe…… before you are disgusted by something!

Part RPG, part shooter and a bit of rouge like RPG, The Binding of Isaac is a game that really does keep you on your toes.

Thanks to all the awesome power ups that Isaac can get and also the fact that the game is different each time you play it. Not to mention all of the extra content that has been added to the game since it was launched keeps me and lots of other people coming back.

If you want to know some fun games like The Binding of Isaac you have come to the right place as that is what we are looking at today.

Enter the Gungeon

Enter the Gungeon is a game that I knew was for me the moment I saw the first trailer.

The idea of the game is that you are one of a group of badasses who are making their way through a dungeon trying to kill as many things as you can and score all the loot you can carry. However, there is a special ultimate treasure that is your main goal and that is a special gun that can kill the past!

Enter the Gungeon is similar to The Binding of Isaac in that they both have the same kind of shooter feel to them.

I will say that Enter the Gungeon does have slightly larger areas for you to wage war in so if you love The Binding of Isaac, but have always wanted larger levels this could be for you.

The whole style of this game is just awesome! Above all else, this is a really fun game and worth checking out if a shooter set in a dungeon is your idea of a good time.

Risk of Rain

You may be wondering in what universe is a side-scrolling action platform style game ideal for a games like The Binding of Isaac list?

Well while it is 2D and there is quite a bit of platforming in the Risk of Rain. I feel that it does contain many of the elements that I and you love about The Binding of Isaac.

There are rouge-like elements to the game so you always have to be on your toes and it even has permadeath so if you screw up….. well you are screwed!
The way that the enemies are random is really cool, but one of the things that I liked about Risk of Rain is that the bosses are random too.

Sometimes you get lucky and get a few bosses that you can handle with ease. Other times you are not quite so lucky. With a sci-fi feel to it and a lot of charm, I really do think that this is a game you guys will have a lot of fun with.

Spelunky

Let me be honest with you here. It took me an age to actually play Spelunky.

I heard how good it was, had a buddy constantly try to sell me on the game, but for one reason or another, I never gave it a chance.

Then one month it was one of the free PlayStation Plus games so I thought I would give it a blast. And you know what? I am an idiot! I loved it and spent a good three hours playing it the first time I fired it up.

Spelunky has many of the rouge like and random aspects that you like in The Binding of Isaac so I think that is why many people compare the games.

The art style is really cool as well it has a kind of super cute, Indiana Jones vibe going on and that is something I got a real kick out of.

No two playthroughs are ever the same of Spelunky and I find that it is one of those games where I think I will play it for just ten minutes and then before I know it my cup of tea is cold and I have been playing for an hour.

Nuclear Throne

When it comes to games like The Binding of Isaac I feel that Nuclear Throne really is one of the best. It has the same top-down kind of shooter style.

This time though the game is set in a post-apocalyptic world and you need to make use of the over 100 different guns to put these mutants, monsters, and freaks back in their place. All the while trying to get as much loot as you can.

It is just so much fun and one of the most over the top games in this genre you will ever play.

There is always something blowing up or getting its guts exploded all over the screen. The shooter action is awesome and you will find yourself laughing as you play, but you are always on edge as you never know what the heck is coming your way next.

By far though my favorite aspect of the game is the way you can come across radiation and use this to mutate yourself with new limbs and abilities.

Crypt of the Necrodancer

A rhythm-based rouge-like dungeon crawler? Who the heck ever asked for this? Well, I do not know if anyone did, but I am glad it is here because I had an absolute blast with Crypt of the Necrodancer.

Even before it was released this was probably a game you heard about as there was a ton of hype about it. At first glance, it looks like your standard top-down rouge like a dungeon crawler.

Well, Crypt of the Necrodancer is unlike any other game (not just rouge like RPG’s) that I and you will ever play.

You have to move and fight to the beat and it is just so addicting and so much fun. While I love the soundtrack in the game, one feature that is really neat is that you can actually use your own MP3 songs as the music for the game. While this is a cool feature I think the actual soundtrack fits the tone of the game perfectly.

A Wizards Lizard

I think that this is a bit of a stretch when it comes to a list of games like The Binding of Isaac, but hear me out.

I think that the charm that A Wizards Lizard has is very comparable to The Binding of Isaac.

I would class this as more an action RPG and I would actually say that if you like the old school top-down Zelda games, you will have a blast with this.

The dungeon is always changing things up on you which makes things very intense like The Binding of Isaac.

As well as killing anything that gets in your way and of course collecting loot and other goodies so you can get more cool stuff.

A Wizards Lizard has a pretty cool gameplay mechanic where you need to rescue villagers from the dungeon and by doing this you will have a better town and you will be stronger next time you head back into the dungeon. It is a very interesting thing to be in a game like this.

Rogue Legacy

Rogue Legacy is nuts! How people come up with stuff like this is beyond me, but Rogue Legacy is one of the most interesting rogue like (or as they say rogue-lite) games I have ever had the pleasure to play.

What is interesting and different about this game is that when you die it is not game over, but instead you play as the child of the character who just died.

The thing with this is that you never know what kind of ability or disadvantage the child may have.

It is such an interesting take on a game like this. Plus as you are a good parent, when you do die. Your child who replaces you gets to use the loot you collected to give them a fighting chance. This is a 2D style game, but I still think that it has a lot of the charm that The Binding of Isaac has.

One thing that is well worth noting about Rogue Legacy is that this game is very, very hard! But not so much that it is frustrating, more that, you keep saying you will have one more go to try and get a bit further.

Towelfight 2 (Android/IOS)

Ok so Towelfight 2 is a mobile game and there are Microtransactions, but you can still have a lot of fun with this without spending a penny. You play as a really cool and hip dude.

You are so cool and classy that you have a monocle and it is with this monocle you will be killing anything that is getting in your way.

You do not shoot bullets, you shoot animals! That it is right you have a selection of animals and they are your ammo and they each do different things.

There are tons of power-ups, weapons, boss fights and there is actually a pretty fun story running through all the mayhem too.

I know that mobile games are not to everyone’s taste, but this is one that I had a lot of fun with. The frantic run and gun style gameplay is what makes me feel that fans of The Binding of Isaac will have a lot of fun with this.

Super Meat Boy (Wild Card)

You may be thinking that the work of Edmund McMillen is the only reason that Super Meat Boy has made it on my games like The Binding of Isaac list.

Well, that is kind of true in a way, but Super Meat Boy has that same kind of twisted style and art that The Binding of Isaac has.

It is also hard as nails and while it is more of a platformer, you will still have one heck of a challenge trying to save your bandaged covered bride.

Super Meat Boy is one of the most popular indie games of all time. It is one of the first indie games that I remember a mainstream audience freaking out over and getting really excited.

If you like the twisted style, humor, and art of The Binding of Isaac you are going to love Super Meat Boy.

Thanks for checking out my games like The Binding of Isaac list.

I actually had fun with all of these games, but if I had to highly recommend just a couple that is actually very easy for me to do.

Nuclear Throne has a very similar feeling to The Binding of Isaac and I think that you will have an absolute blast making your way through this game.

Gameplay wise it does have similarities to The Binding of Isaac. The other game that I highly recommend that you play is Spelunky. It is such a charming game and while it is a 2D side-scrolling style game.

It has many of the rouge like elements that you love about The Binding of Isaac.
